SOLAR LIGHTING - CHANGING THE DEVELOPING WORLD.

Techy Geeks.

As a company that's what we are. We love the innovations that change the world. However what we love most is when cutting edge technology is applied to developing healthy and sustainable community.

Recently Reware has had the distinct pleasure of helping Sheila Kennedy of Kennedy & Violich Architecture (KVA) in Boston, promote one of the coolest not-for-profit creations we have ever seen - The Portable Light Project.

Check out the pictures, this stuff is amazing!

  ABOUT THE PORTABLE LIGHT PROJECT

Portable Light integrates flexible photovoltaics and energy efficient solid state lighting in a flexible textile form.

Not only that, but it can be adapted to local cultures and customized by people using traditional sewing and weaving techniques in an open source integration model!

A Portable Light unit provides renewable power to charge a cell phone and provide bright, white light to support community based education and household economic development. The initial program in the Mexican Sierra Madre has been a huge success and additional Portable Light projects are underway in Nicaragua, Brazil, Venezuela, as well as Zwa-Zulu Natal in Africa.

Think this is as cool a we do?

  JOIN THE INITIATIVE!

The Portable Light Project and the Rocky Mountain Institute (RMI) have teamed up to provide an easy way to donate to the project. As an added bonus, with every donation above $20 you get RMI's Solutions Newsletter, which is also amazing. Check it out:
